Insulation in Orleans
Orleans is Ottawa's east end, stretching along the Ottawa River out towards Cumberland. Like Kanata it is largely a post-1960s suburban community, and it has a long-established francophone population alongside the rest of the city.
The building stock means the same pattern we see across Ottawa's suburbs: truss attics with blown material that has settled, and air leakage paths that were never sealed when the house went up.
Being close to the river does not change the insulation specification, but it does mean we look harder at the basement and the rim joist on properties in the lower-lying parts. Where ground moisture is a factor, closed cell is the product that goes below grade because it does not absorb water.
Basements and Rim Joists in the East End
A finished basement is common in this housing, and it is frequently where the comfort complaint actually lives. Cold floors on the main level, a basement that never quite warms up, and draughts along the baseboards usually trace to the rim joist rather than to the walls.
The rim joist is the strip where the floor framing meets the foundation. It is typically a long row of air leaks straight to outside, often with a batt stuffed in front of it doing very little. A few inches of closed cell foam there seals and insulates in one pass.
How We Quote It
We do not price insulation over the phone. What a building needs depends on how it was built, what is already in it and where the air is actually moving, and none of that is visible from a postcode. So we come out, look, and give you a written scope. The scope is what governs the work.
Our own installers do the job, with professional rigs and full protective equipment. The estimate is free, there is no obligation, and travel to Orleans is not a line item on the quote.

Questions
Common questions from Orleans
Can you work in a finished basement without tearing it apart?
It depends what needs reaching. The rim joist is usually accessible above a dropped ceiling or behind a small opening, and that is where most of the gain is. Where the work genuinely requires opening a finished surface, we say so in the written scope before anything starts.
Does being near the river change what you recommend?
It makes us look harder at ground moisture, the basement and the rim joist. Below grade and anywhere moisture is a factor we specify closed cell foam, because it does not absorb water the way open cell does.
Do you actually work in Orleans?
Yes. Orleans is inside our regular service area, with the same crews, the same written scope and the same free estimate as everywhere else we work.
Is there a travel charge to Orleans?
No. Travel is not a line item on the quote, and the estimate is free whether or not you go ahead.
What does the assessment involve?
We look at the building, not just the room you called about. Insulation works as a whole envelope, so we check where the air is moving before recommending where to spend.
How soon can someone come out?
That depends on the week and where the building is, so we will not promise a date on a web page. Call and we will tell you the real next opening for your area.
